EMR is one of the world’s leading metal recyclers, playing a pivotal role in the global supply of sustainable raw materials. With over 70 years of experience, EMR has grown from a single UK operation into a multinational corporation supporting circular economy initiatives worldwide.
SOLIS Group was appointed to carry out a comprehensive warehouse refurbishment to support EMR’s new “Re-Rewind” project an initiative focused on the sustainable recovery, reuse, and recycling of first-generation wind turbines reaching the end of their operational life.

DELIVERY

The project involved the full refurbishment and conversion of an existing warehouse into a wind turbine processing and storage centre.

Key works included:

  • Creation of a bespoke storage area for decommissioned wind turbines, designed for safe and secure holding prior to processing.

  • Structural surveys and concrete core testing to assess and validate building integrity.

  • Installation of new rainwater pipework and a point-of-use water heater.

  • Intumescent painting applied to the mezzanine structure to enhance fire resistance.

  • Steel reinforcement works, including plate installation and welding to secure the mezzanine balcony.

  • Roller shutter door repairs and safety improvements.

  • Design and installation of bespoke electrical housings and custom cabinetry for electrical boards.

All works were completed safely and efficiently, adhering to EMR’s operational requirements and sustainability standards.

IMPACT

The completed refurbishment has provided EMR with a dedicated facility to process and restore decommissioned wind turbines, supporting the UK’s transition to a sustainable, circular energy economy.

Benefits include:
