We’re delighted to announce a new partnership between SOLIS and Glasgow Caledonian University, aimed at developing an advanced digital platform that will redefine building maintenance delivering smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable outcomes.
The collaboration commenced in early 2025 after the Glasgow Caledonian University research team engaged with SOLIS through an Innovation Voucher supported by the West of Scotland KTP Centre. Led by Octavian Niculita, Don McGlinchey and Gordon Lindsay the project combines connected sensor technologies with artificial intelligence to enable real-time asset monitoring and predictive maintenance. This proactive approach will help reduce downtime, prevent unplanned failures, and optimise system performance across a wide range of environments, including housing associations, schools, retail spaces, and offices.
Using advanced Digital Twin technology, the team will create detailed virtual models of critical building systems, allowing performance improvements to be evaluated and refined before implementation on site. Initial research will focus on five key operational systems, supported by SOLIS’s extensive expertise in fault detection and diagnostics.
Beyond innovation, the partnership promotes meaningful collaboration between academia and industry, accelerating the delivery of practical, data-driven solutions with real-world impact across sectors such as retail, hospitality, defence, and education.
