From Industrial Waste to Art: EMR and SOLIS Bring Circular Economy Principles to Life

As part of the refurbishment, materials and components from the 100-year-old recycling facility that would traditionally have been destined for landfill were given a new lease of life.

Rather than allowing these materials to become waste, EMR and SOLIS worked with local artists to transform selected parts of the warehouse into unique pieces of artwork, creating something meaningful from materials that had reached the end of their original purpose.

The initiative reflects the shared values at the heart of the partnership between EMR and SOLIS  finding practical ways to reuse materials, reduce waste and maximise the value of existing resources.

For EMR, whose business is built around recycling and recovering valuable materials, the approach was a natural extension of its own circular economy principles. For SOLIS, it provided an opportunity to incorporate sustainability into the refurbishment itself, demonstrating that circular thinking can be embedded into every stage of a project.

The result is a refurbishment that not only modernises an important Glasgow facility, but also celebrates its history and gives new purpose to elements of its past.
